Impostor

Nikolai Petrov hates lies.

Finding out he’s supposed to be the next Vampire King of Raspien was not something Nikolai Petrov ever expected. Torn from his family and his home, Nikolai is thrust into an unfamiliar world with unfamiliar people.

But it does not feel like the court of vipers he was warned about. Nikolai is surprised by the warmth of his new family and Lord Councilman Caius Varga, immersed in his new school and his new friends, and somewhere along the line, he stops counting down the days until his return home.

His willingness to stay and take up his promised role only grows when he meets the enchanting Lord in Waiting of Amenti, Viktor Kamel. Swept up in romance, friendship and the prospect of learning under the Petrov Academy’s best healers, Nikolai finds himself more deeply entangled than ever in his role as a prince of Raspien.

But things aren’t always what they seem. Nikolai’s warmth, kindness and honesty cannot protect him from lies told in decades past; in the end, the truth always comes knocking and the shadows of the past have teeth as deadly as the ugliest of secrets.

The Settings of Impostor

Raspien

Raspien is one of the largest countries in Kirgard, the central continent of Denya. Raspien forms part of the region known as East Kirgard. The southern parts of the country experience four distinct seasons. Farther north, winter stretches well into spring, with a very mild summer and a shorter autumn. The capital of Raspien is Pershka and the national language is Raspieni. The currency is Raspieni crowns but most of the currencies in use among the lands of Central and East Kirgard are accepted. There is no faith practiced in this land.

In the vampire world, Raspien is one of the most important countries, home to the Petrov dynasty, which has served as one of the only three Day Court kingdoms for the last 1000 years. The Petrov Palace is in the small northern town of Mevka close to a number of country estates. Between the Petrov Palace and the town is the renowned Petrov Academy, a school for nobleborn vampire boys.

Amenti

Amenti is one of the largest lands in the world of Denya and is part of the region known as the Southern States of Kirgard. Amenti experiences a dry desert climate with hot temperatures year round. In the desert, nights tend to get very cold. Although the year is culturally split into four seasons, this is not reflected in the climate. The capital of Amenti is Zandria and the national language is Amentian. The currency of Amenti is gold, with silver and copper coins also used to divide value.

The land of Amenti practices the Akertian faith, a polytheistic religion that worships seven gods: Ramun, the god of the sun and the sky, Isithor, the goddess of fertility and motherhood, Orus, the god of war, Cletho the goddess of wisdom, Nubis, the god of death, Aset, the god of the desert and its creatures, and Hatep, the god of labor. The Order of the Sabaa is an order of priests who take vows of chastity and silence and serve as the human representatives of the gods.

In the vampire world, Amenti forms part of the Day Court and is considered a lordship. The Lord of Amenti commands an order of spies and assassins known as the Blades of Amenti and runs a vampire school called the Sethaian Academy, open to vampire children of all genders and social classes. The vampire population in Amenti is thought to be among the highest in the world.
