THE STAKES ARE

RISING

Flawless

Anya Petrova wants to be the Sword of Raspien.

Growing up a princess has left Anya with the desire to be for her court what other princesses who came before her were denied. Her grip on the harsh realities of being a woman with a title that holds great meaning but little power is as strong as her grip on the daggers she wields with such precision.

Anya is also daughter to the warmest woman who ever walked the halls of the Petrov Palace, and when she finds herself faced with a man made of the sun, Anya has to fight every fiber of her being to retain the unbending determination she’s been told a weapon must have.

But ugly truths and age-old secrets aren’t quite as easy to resist, and when Anya finds herself at a crossroads between what she’s had faith in her entire life and the rot peeking out from underneath, she must make her final choice: what kind of princess does Anya Petrova want to be?

And more importantly, what kind of sword? And whose?

The Settings of Flawless

Raspien

Raspien is one of the largest countries in Kirgard, the central continent of Denya. Raspien forms part of the region known as East Kirgard. The southern parts of the country experience four distinct seasons. Farther north, winter stretches well into spring, with a very mild summer and a shorter autumn. The capital of Raspien is Pershka and the national language is Raspieni. The currency is Raspieni crowns but most of the currencies in use among the lands of Central and East Kirgard are accepted. There is no faith practiced in this land.

In the vampire world, Raspien is one of the most important countries, home to the Petrov dynasty, which has served as one of the only three Day Court kingdoms for the last 1000 years. The Petrov Palace is in the small northern town of Mevka close to a number of country estates. Between the Petrov Palace and the town is the renowned Petrov Academy, a school for nobleborn vampire boys.

The Vampire Quarter – Vania

Vania is one of the larger countries that make up Central Kirgard. The country experiences a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, milder winters and summers, and beautiful autumns and springs. The capital of Vania is Stoke and the national language is Vanian. The currency is crowns and is recognized in most neighboring countries.

There is no common religion or philosophy in Vania. Historically, Stoke was a trading hub, which led to a lot of mixing among people who ended up settling in the capital. Stoke was the place where the first vampire Lorcan eventually settled and met his wife, leading to the eventual establishment of the political system of vampires and the existence of the Day and Night Courts.

Stoke is the capital of the vampire world, with the the Realm running from the White Palace in the Vampire Quarter, a glamoured part within the city, and the Night Court running from Castle Night up on Castle Hill, glamoured from humans to deter their approach. Within the Vampire Quarter is the Ciernik Institute, the most popular school for nobleborn vampires, while on Castle Hill is the Moonlight Academy, the most central Night Court boarding school for Night Court vampire children from all over the world.

Amenti

Amenti is one of the largest lands in the world of Denya and is part of the region known as the Southern States of Kirgard. Amenti experiences a dry desert climate with hot temperatures year round. In the desert, nights tend to get very cold. Although the year is culturally split into four seasons, this is not reflected in the climate. The capital of Amenti is Zandria and the national language is Amentian. The currency of Amenti is gold, with silver and copper coins also used to divide value.

The land of Amenti practices the Akertian faith, a polytheistic religion that worships seven gods: Ramun, the god of the sun and the sky, Isithor, the goddess of fertility and motherhood, Orus, the god of war, Cletho the goddess of wisdom, Nubis, the god of death, Aset, the god of the desert and its creatures, and Hatep, the god of labor. The Order of the Sabaa is an order of priests who take vows of chastity and silence and serve as the human representatives of the gods.

In the vampire world, Amenti forms part of the Day Court and is considered a lordship. The Lord of Amenti commands an order of spies and assassins known as the Blades of Amenti and runs a vampire school called the Sethaian Academy, open to vampire children of all genders and social classes. The vampire population in Amenti is thought to be among the highest in the world.
